Dutchess Day School Sponsors Fifth Annual Multi-school Art Show
“Young Emerging Artists of the Hudson Valley”
On April 13-14, 2012, Dutchess Day School will sponsor “Young Emerging Artists of the Hudson Valley,” its annual multi-school art show for children in preschool through eighth grade, hosted by the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. Dozens of schools in the region have been invited to attend. Their students will create outside the box art a concept that has captured the modern imagination. Many believe our future resides “outside the box.” This exhibit is designed to encourage all educators and students to think innovatively while conceiving, designing and producing artwork. The art exhibit gives all children equal opportunity to exhibit their work and to see themselves as young and emerging artists.
The event is the brainchild of Alison MacFarlane, art educator at Dutchess Day School. Each fall, with help from the school community, Ali chooses a theme and then begins to solicit student work from public and independent schools, and nonprofit organizations, throughout the Hudson Valley. Previous years’ themes have included “A Celebration of Three Visionaries: Henry Hudson, Robert Fulton and Franklin Delano Roosevelt,” “A Celebration of the Life and Work of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt,” “Trash to Treasure: The Art of Recycling,” and “Cultural Rhythms of Music and Art.”
The exhibit will be open Friday, April 13 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. An opening reception on Friday, April 13 begins at 5 p.m. and will feature special guest performances by Young Emerging Musicians: Finnegan Shanahan, Dutchess Day Alums Maddie ‘10 and Corinne ‘09 Olson, and the Dutchess Day School Jazz Ensemble.
Dutchess Day School along with the following school districts and nonprofit organizations have agreed to participate: Anderson Center for Autism, Arlington School District, Children’s Home of Kingston, Hudson City School District, Hyde Park School District, Millbrook Central School District, Poughkeepsie City School District, Red Hook Central School District, Rhinebeck Central School District, Spackenkill School District, and Wappingers School District.
